Worldwide the Employment Agency business turns over billions of pounds and as of the mid 1990’s has been one of most progressive industries in which to work. However, it only suits a certain type of person.

Many candidates that seek a career in recruitment fail within the 1st year. The main reasons are that they do not have the necessary enthusiasm, strong characteristics or the clear communication skills to converse at a variety of levels in this demanding industry. A client could quite easily spend in excess of £1 million per year with an Employment Agency and as a result they do not tolerate fools gladly. This industry suits intelligent motivated individual’s from a graduate, business 2 business or a direct sales background that are hungry for success and that are looking for a company to give them an opportunity to progress. It does not usually suit candidates looking for an easy quiet relaxed H.R or C.V sifting role.

Alliance Personnel specializes in the supply of temporary personnel to the Production, Manufacturing, Traffic Management, Commercial, Professional, Warehousing & Distribution sectors. A very basic example of how a company could utilise our services is when they have fluctuations of work or unforeseen circumstances it is more efficient for them to turn to an Agency.

Due to the competitive nature of Employment Agencies, most of the potential clients you contact will initially be very negative towards you. This is because they are already utilising the services of an Agency or believe they will never have a need for an Agency. However, many of our direct competitors do not supply a genuine quality service i.e. they do not interview, reference check or job match temporary staff properly. Naturally, this results in a poor service and therefore this is one of the avenues in which a competent Recruitment Consultant would be able to capitalise and consequently develop a client portfolio.

We also operate a 24hr service which is currently shared 1 in every 2-3 weeks. Additionally, we do not work a standard 9am – 5pm. Our office hours are 7:30am – 5:30pm Monday – Thursday and on a Friday you will rarely finish before 6pm.

However, there are many people that work in the employment agency industry that enjoy their careers and benefit very well from them. All of our Recruitment Consultants started with us at Trainee level and have followed our proven internal career structure. These positions will only suit applicants that want to thrive in an extremely competitive sales & servicing orientated environment and want to be rewarded for their achievements. You will follow a structured career path providing you with support & ongoing training in all aspects of recruitment. To succeed in this industry you will need to be extremely:

  • be intelligent and possess clear, precise & professional communication skills.

You also need a good understanding of maths (fractions, decimals, percentages & multiplication) as well as good English grammar for the purposes of letter writing via Word. A maths test will be completed during your interview.

Career Structure months 1 – 24

Stage 1, a week Sales Training

The 1st week comprises of a comprehensive sales training course, hours 8am – 5:30pm. The course is a mixture of written work, role play modules & homework (homework mainly revising that days course notes). This educates on the reasons why companies will use an Agency and how to sell the service. It will provide you with the foundation to enable you to succeed in this extremely competitive industry. You will be paid £100 for the training week if you successfully complete your first 4 weeks employment.

Stage 2, months 1 – 6, circa £18k
  • Basic £16,000 + commission +pro-rata £2000 time keeping, attendance, performance bonus i.e. x12 new sales calls per day.
  • Working under the supervision of a Divisional Manager you will mainly be involved in cold calling telesales, interviewing temporary employees, reference checking, basic servicing & selection, developing a client portfolio, client visits.
  • Candidates tend to get their first promotion within 6 months, depending on how quickly they can accommodate their responsibilities.
Stage 3, months 6 – 12/18, Circa £20k – £26K
  • Basic 18K + commission.
  • As months 1 – 6 but with more responsibility.
  • Developing & maintaining a client portfolio.
  • Following up existing leads / previous clients.
  • Arranging & attending business appointments.
  • Completing tenders.
  • Taking client requirements.
  • Taking candidate calls.
  • Sourcing & selection
  • Payroll / timesheet administration, basic fraction, decimal & multiplication work.
Stage 3, months 12/18 – 24/36, Circa £24k – £30K
  • Basic Salary £20k.
  • Demonstrate Managerial potential / involvement in training.
  • Continually develop & service a client portfolio.
Stage 4 & 5, Circa +£30k. Thereafter, Senior Consultant & then Management for employees with all the necessary attributes

  9. Will you be able to accommodate being on 24hr call for a week every 2-3 weeks?
  10. Do you have a full understanding of basic maths including working with decimals, fractions & percentages?
  11. Can you write a letter demonstrating a good understanding of the English language and grammar?
  12. Is your hand writing legible?
  13. Can you plan a journey using an A to Z map?
  14. Do you hold a driving licence & own a car that you can use on a daily basis. Eventually you will attend business appointments with clients, fuel allowance per mile will be provided. If not, you will not be able to gain your first promotion. Do not apply if you are not planning on passing your driving test and purchasing a car within the next 6 months.
